about

I wrote this song for Wade Sargent, a dear friend who was an inspiration to me in my youth. He took me lobster fishing; he built a clubhouse beside his house for the children of Sorrento; he fed us more lobsters and seafood than I can fathom. He is a kind soul.

lyrics

I once knew a man, a man from Maine
Who worked on the ocean as a lobster man
Sorrento was the town where he was from
This man was as tall as Paul Bunyan

He always made us food to eat
Like spaghetti with spiced sausage
He took good care and he kept us warm
He gave us shelter from the storm

That's Wade, Wade
That's Wade, Wade

His boat was big, his house was small
Which was quite strange 'cause he was so tall
He built us kids a clubhouse shack
He drove around town in a Cadillac

Short by boat, long by car
He boated us kids to Bar Harbor
On the Fourth of July he took us there
For fireworks and fun for all to share

That's Wade, Wade
That's Wade, Wade

Been years since I've seen him, but some do tell
He's found himself a home that fits him well
The name of his boat is the Michelle Lee
One day soon, I hope to see

Wade, Wade, Wade, That's Wade
